What is a refillable vape pod kit?

A refillable vape pod kit is a compact rechargeable device with a detachable pod that you fill manually from a bottle of e-liquid. The pod contains either a built-in integrated coil (replaced by swapping the entire pod) or a removable coil inside the pod (replaced separately, leaving the pod body in place). Both types work on the same principle: the coil heats the e-liquid in the pod to produce vapour, and when the coil reaches end of life (typically one to two weeks depending on usage), you replace either the coil or the whole pod and continue.

The core advantage of a refillable kit over a disposable vape or a prefilled pod kit is cost. A 10ml bottle of 20mg nic salt at VapeCity costs from £12.99 and will fill a 2ml pod five times. A disposable vape covering a similar number of puffs costs considerably more per ml of e-liquid, with no reusable hardware. For daily vapers who previously spent on disposables or prefilled pods, switching to a refillable pod kit is the single largest cost reduction available without changing flavour style or nicotine strength.

Refillable pod kits are also where the flavour choice is widest. Any nic salt at VapeCity can be used in any compatible refillable kit, across hundreds of flavours from dozens of brands. Prefilled pod kits limit you to the proprietary pods sold for that specific device. Refillable kits remove that lock-in entirely.

Coil platforms across VapeCity pod kits

Voopoo dominates the VapeCity pod kit range and uses the PnP coil platform across most Argus and Vmate kits. PnP coils span from 0.2 ohm (sub-ohm DTL, for the Drag X2) down to 0.6 ohm and 0.8 ohm (MTL/RDL) and 1.0 ohm (MTL). The Voopoo Argus G3 Mini, Vmate E2, Argus P3 and Argus Pro 2 all share the PnP-X pod format with PnP coil compatibility. This means a vapers who already owns PnP coils can try a new Voopoo device without needing a new coil range. Voopoo TPP pods (for the Drag X2) are a separate format used in the higher-power sub-ohm body.

OXVA Xlim pods use proprietary Xlim cartridges with a push-fit bottom coil. The Xlim Go Lite at VapeCity takes Xlim cartridges in 0.6 ohm and 0.8 ohm. These are a separate format from the Xlim Pro 3 and Xlim Pro 2 cartridges, which share a larger cartridge size. The Xlim platform is one of the strongest performers for pure MTL draw at low wattage, and the Xlim Go Lite entry point is the most affordable pod kit in the VapeCity range at £5.99.

Smok Novo GT at VapeCity uses Novo GT Meshed pods in 0.7 ohm MTL and 0.4 ohm RDL formats. The Smok Novo range has historically been popular for the snug MTL draw at low wattage, and the GT iteration maintains this with a larger pod capacity and USB-C charging. The Aspire Loomix at VapeCity uses a replaceable coil inside the pod body rather than a pod-plus-coil swap, with Loomix coils available in 1.0 ohm MTL for a very tight, cigarette-replicating draw.

What e-liquid to use in a refillable pod kit

All MTL pod kits at VapeCity are designed for nicotine salt e-liquid in a 50/50 VG/PG blend at 10mg or 20mg. The 50/50 blend wicks cleanly through the small coil ports in a 0.8-1.2 ohm MTL coil at 10-18W. At 20mg, nic salt delivers fast nicotine absorption with a smooth throat hit at this wattage range. The combination is designed to replicate the speed and sensation of a cigarette draw with each puff. This is the standard setup for every refillable pod kit in the VapeCity range.

High-VG shortfill e-liquids in 70/30 or 80/20 blend are not suitable for standard MTL pod coils. The thick VG ratio does not flow through tight coil wicking at low wattage and causes dry hits and rapid coil burnout. The only exception in the VapeCity range is the Voopoo Drag X2 Pod Mod Kit, which uses PnP sub-ohm coils at 0.2 ohm and is designed for DTL vaping at 60-80W with high-VG shortfills. This kit is listed on the refillable-vape-pods page but is a different product class from the MTL and RDL pod kits.

For RDL pod kits at VapeCity running at 0.4-0.6 ohm and 20-35W, the correct e-liquid is either 10mg nic salt (20mg at this wattage delivers too much nicotine per puff) or 3mg freebase shortfill in a 50/50 or 60/40 blend. Some vapers use 50/50 shortfills in RDL kits as a bridge between nic salts and full sub-ohm shortfill use. At 3mg in a 50/50 blend, an RDL pod at 25W gives more vapour and flavour density than a strict MTL kit without the full commitment to a sub-ohm tank.
