Sometimes it is the pod that fails, not the coil. A hairline crack near the fill port, a leak that starts overnight, a pod you dropped one too many times. The Aspire Flexus Pro Empty Pod exists for exactly that moment. It is the pod body on its own, no coil inside, so you drop your still-good coil into a fresh shell and carry on rather than paying to replace a coil that had days left in it.
There are two sizes. The 2ml sits inside the UK TPD limit and suits anyone who likes to switch flavours often or keep an eye on how much they are getting through. The XL holds more for longer stretches between refills. Both take the same Flexus Pro coils, which you will need to buy separately since these shells arrive empty. You can browse the rest of the Aspire replacement pods range while you are at it.
The Flexus Pro splits into two parts: the pod body that holds your liquid and a coil head that presses into the base. Nine times out of ten when something goes wrong it is the coil that has tired out, not the body. Now and then it is the other way round, and that is where a bare shell earns its keep.
The classic case is a cracked pod. Plastic gives out at the stress points, usually around the fill port or the base, and suddenly liquid is weeping where it should not. If the coil inside is only a few days old and still tasting fine, replacing the whole filled pod is just throwing money away. A fresh empty shell lets you lift the good coil across and keep going.
The other big use is flavour separation. Run two or three juices and a single pod turns them into an accidental cocktail, because the old flavour clings to the wick for a fill or two. Keep one filled shell per flavour and you switch by swapping pods, clean every time. The shell is just the vessel; which coil goes in is up to you.
Plenty of people also keep a spare shell in the drawer purely as insurance. Pods break at the worst moments, and a device sitting idle while a replacement is in the post is a device you are not vaping.
The 2ml complies with the UK Tobacco Products Directive, which caps refillable tanks at 2ml. It is the capacity you will find on almost every refillable pod sold new in this country. Go for it if you value staying inside the regulations, or if you simply like the frequent top-up as a rough gauge of your daily intake.
The XL gives you a bigger reservoir and fewer interruptions, which makes sense if you vape steadily through the day and find the 2ml runs dry too fast. It also earns its place on a trip, where a bottle of juice to refill from is not always to hand.
Both take the identical Flexus Pro coil range and seat into the device exactly the same way. Capacity is the only thing separating them, so pick on how often you want to be refilling, nothing more.
Two minutes, and the only thing that catches people out is rushing the priming. Skip the soak and the first pull tastes of burnt cotton, every time.
A fresh shell that misbehaves almost always comes down to the coil fit or skipping the soak. Run through these first.
Burnt taste from the off
The coil was vaped dry. Re-prime it, fill, then wait five minutes before the first draw.
Leaking around the base
The coil is not seated. Push it firmly home until it clicks and sits flush, and do not overfill past the line.
Liquid weeping from the fill port
The silicone plug has not gone fully back in. Press it down evenly all the way round.
Old coil tastes off in the new shell
The transferred coil was further gone than it seemed. Drop in a fresh coil and the new shell will be fine.
