The Vaporesso XROS 5 Mini is the no-fuss member of the XROS family. Where the XROS 4 and the bigger XROS 5 give you a screen and manual wattage, the Mini strips that back: there is no button and no menu, you just fill a pod, click it in and inhale. It is aimed squarely at anyone leaving disposables who wants the saving of a refillable without learning anything new.

What makes that work is Smart Mode. The device reads the pod you fit and sets the power to suit it automatically, so you never touch a wattage setting. Behind the simplicity is a surprisingly big 1500mAh battery for a device this small, charged over USB-C in under an hour, and the Corex 2.0 mesh pods that keep the flavour clean. It sits in our refillable pod kits as the easiest step off a closed bar, a tidier idea than another big-puff disposable.
This is the whole pitch of the Mini. There is no fire button and no screen, so you cannot set a wattage even if you wanted to. Instead the device recognises which XROS pod you have fitted and sets the power to match it, then fires the moment you draw. Put a higher-resistance MTL pod in and it runs cool and tight; fit the lower-resistance pod and it gives a warmer, airier draw, all without you changing a thing.
For a new switcher that is exactly right: the hardest part of moving to a refillable, working out the settings, simply is not there. You fill, you puff, and the device handles the rest. Experienced vapers who want to set their own watts are better served by the XROS 4 or XROS 5, but for grab-and-go simplicity the Mini is hard to beat.

The pod is empty when you get it, and you top-fill it: pull the mouthpiece off, drip your juice into the port and push it back on, no prising the pod out of the device. Inside is the Corex 2.0 mesh coil, Vaporesso's refined heating tech with a tuned mesh that heats evenly and wicks well, so the flavour comes through clean and the pod lasts a good run of refills before it tires.
It takes the full range of XROS 2ml pods, from the tighter 0.8 and 1.0ohm MTL pods to the looser 0.6 and 0.4ohm options, and because of Smart Mode the device just adapts to whichever you fit. You fill them with any nic salt to suit the coil, which is what keeps the running cost so low. When a coil finally fades you swap the pod rather than the device.
The headline number is the battery. A 1500mAh cell is large for a device this size, and the Mini measures only around 11.5cm tall, 2.4cm wide and 1.4cm deep at roughly 65 grams, so it slips into a pocket and still sees most people comfortably through a day. It charges over USB-C at 2A, which fills it in under an hour from flat.
Because it recharges and refills, the only things you ever replace are the pod and the juice, never a battery, which is the whole saving over a disposable. There is a small light to show charge status and a USB-C cable in the box. For such a simple device it gives up very little: the big battery and the Corex pods do the heavy lifting.

There is almost nothing to it, which is the point. Fill the pod, let it soak, and draw. The only habit worth keeping is giving a fresh pod a couple of minutes before the first proper pull, so the coil wicks and you avoid a burnt taste.
This is where a refillable earns its place. The kit is £12.99, and after that you only buy juice and the odd pod. A 10ml bottle of nic salt is a few pounds and refills a 2ml pod five times over, so your day-to-day cost drops to pennies a fill once the kit is paid for. Against a disposable every couple of days, the Mini pays for itself within a week or two and keeps saving after that.
The Corex 2.0 pod stretches it further, since one pod handles a good run of bottles before the coil needs swapping. Add the big rechargeable battery and the only thing you ever throw away is a small pod now and then, never a whole device. Per puff it is far below any prefilled or disposable option, the same case behind any refillable pod kit.
It is about as reliable as a pod kit gets, but a refillable asks slightly more than a prefilled bar. Most snags trace to a coil that has not soaked, the airflow, or a juice that does not suit the pod.
Burnt or dry hit
The coil has not wicked. After filling, leave a fresh pod two to three minutes and take a few gentle pulls. Keep the pod topped up rather than vaping it dry.
Gurgle or leaking
Do not overfill past the line, seat the mouthpiece firmly and store it upright. A few priming pulls clear a flooded coil.
Weak flavour or thin vapour
Open the airflow, check the battery has charge, and make sure the pod is seated so Smart Mode reads it. A lower-resistance pod gives more vapour.
Harsh throat hit
Close the airflow down, try a higher-resistance MTL pod, or drop to a lower nic strength. Stick to a 50/50 juice for the MTL pods.
Within the XROS line the Mini is the simple one. It drops the screen and the manual wattage of the XROS 4 and XROS 5 in favour of Smart Mode, which makes it the easiest to live with but the least adjustable. If you want to tune your own watts, pick one of those; if you just want to fill and puff, the Mini is the better fit, and it actually carries a bigger battery than the standard XROS 4. All three share the same XROS pods, so pods carry over between them.
Against a disposable it is no contest on cost or waste: you buy the device once and then only pay for juice, where a bar gets binned every couple of days. It is not the kit for big sub-ohm clouds, but for a compact, dead-simple, long-lasting refillable it is one of the easiest pod kits to recommend, a clear step up from a closed system like the Elf Bar ELFX.
