It is the XROS for people who found the original stick shape a bit anonymous and the battery a bit short. The Nano packs the biggest battery of the XROS 4 generation into a squat, palm-sized body with a proper screen on the front, and it keeps everything that made the Vaporesso XROS range popular: cheap, widely available pods, a clean flavour, and a draw that runs from a tight cigarette-style pull to a loose restricted lung hit.

Why XROS 4 Nano wattage control only works on the 0.4ohm pod

This is the question every new owner asks within an hour. Put a 0.4ohm pod in and the screen lets you set any wattage from 5W to 30W in half-watt steps. Put a 0.6, 0.8, 1.0 or 1.2ohm pod in and those controls vanish, replaced by three presets: Eco, Normal and Power.

It is deliberate, not a fault. The higher-resistance pods are designed for a narrow power window; push a 1.2ohm pod to 25W and you burn the cotton in a few puffs. Rather than let people do that, Vaporesso reads the pod, sets a safe centre point, and gives you a small, safe range either side of it. Eco drops the power for longer battery life and a cooler draw, Power nudges it up for more warmth and vapour, Normal sits in the middle. For nine people in ten that is all the control they ever wanted.

The 0.4ohm is the exception because it is built for a wide range, from a warm restricted-lung hit around 20W to a proper cloud near 30W. If you want to fiddle with numbers, that is the pod to buy. If you just want it to work, a 0.8ohm on Normal is the answer.

XROS 4 Nano battery life and charging

Vaporesso quotes up to four days from the 1350mAh cell, which is a light user on a 1.2ohm pod in Eco. A typical ex-smoker on a 0.8ohm at Normal will see two to three days; somebody running the 0.4ohm at 28W all day, one. Every one of those numbers beats the regular XROS 4 and its 1000mAh cell, and independent reviewers called the battery the Nano's strongest point.

Charging is USB-C at 2A, and it is genuinely quick: around twenty minutes to 80 percent from a decent plug, and roughly half an hour to full. The screen shows the percentage as it goes, which beats guessing from a colour-changing light.

Two ways to stretch it: use Eco mode with the 1.0 or 1.2ohm pods, and turn the screen brightness down or its timeout shorter in the menu. The screen is the biggest drain after the coil.

Size, screen and how it feels to use

At about 55 x 21 x 56.5mm and 90g, the Nano is almost exactly square when you look at it face on, and chunkier in the hand than a stick-shaped XROS. It fits a jeans pocket fine; it does not disappear into a shirt pocket the way a Mini does. The brushed metal frame and printed front panel feel solid, and it comes with a lanyard point if you would rather wear it.

The 1.3-inch round colour screen is the main event. It shows wattage or mode, battery, pod resistance and a puff counter, with a choice of three animated themes. It is bright, readable outside, and a lot more informative than the single LED on most budget pods.

The airflow slider on the side runs from a tight mouth-to-lung pull to a loose restricted lung. Firing is on the button or on the draw; you can use either, and the draw sensor is quick. The only real usability complaint reviewers raised is the menu: settings live behind button-press combinations, and the first ten minutes with the manual are worth it.

Which pods does the XROS 4 Nano take?

Every XROS pod. The Nano launched alongside the COREX 2.0 pods, which is what ships in the box, but the older originals and the current Corex 3.0 pods fit and fire just as well. All are 2ml, all top-fill under a snap-off mouthpiece, and all come in 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0 and 1.2ohm.

For most people coming off disposables, a 0.8ohm pod with a 20mg nic salt on Normal is the right starting point. Pods last one to two weeks each; sweet liquids shorten that.

Against the XROS 4: the Nano wins on battery and information, loses on pocketability. If you want a stick you can forget about, the XROS 4. If you want to see what is going on and charge less, the Nano. Against the XROS 5 Nano: the newer one adds a touchscreen and a bigger battery for a few pounds more. Worth it if you like gadgets; not essential. Against the XROS Pro: similar power, different shape, the Pro has a slightly smaller battery. It comes down to whether you want square or stick.

Setting up the XROS 4 Nano

Five minutes to set up, including the one step people skip.

1Charge the Nano over USB-C before first use. Twenty minutes gets you most of the way.
2Pull the mouthpiece off the pod, fill to just below the max line, and push the mouthpiece back on.
3Leave the pod five minutes to soak before the first draw. This is the step that prevents a burnt first hit.
4Click the pod in. The screen shows the resistance and switches to wattage (0.4ohm) or Eco/Normal/Power (everything else).
5Set the airflow slider, pick a mode, and fire on the button or just draw.

Common XROS 4 Nano problems and fixes

Most issues are pod issues, not device issues. Try these first.

Wattage control has disappeared

You have a pod other than 0.4ohm in. The Nano only allows manual wattage on the 0.4ohm; everything else uses Eco, Normal and Power.

Burnt taste on a new pod

Not soaked long enough, or Power mode on a 1.2ohm. Refill, wait five minutes, try Normal.

Screen says no pod or check pod

Take the pod out, wipe both gold contacts dry, reseat it firmly.

Battery draining fast

Turn the screen brightness down and shorten the display timeout in the menu, and use Eco mode on the higher-resistance pods.

Leaking at the base

Overfilled or the mouthpiece is not fully seated. Fill below the max line, press the mouthpiece home, and store the kit upright.

Is the Vaporesso XROS 4 Nano worth buying?

Yes, if you want an XROS with a big battery and a proper screen and you are happy with a square shape. Reviewers were close to unanimous about the battery and the build, the flavour on COREX 2.0 pods is clean and full, and the fast charge means you almost never get caught out. At from £20.99 it is a well-priced step up from a basic XROS.

Skip it if you want the smallest possible pocket vape (an XROS 4 Mini is slimmer and cheaper), if you want wattage control on every pod, or if you are after a sub-ohm cloud machine; 30W is the ceiling. And if touchscreens appeal, the XROS 5 Nano is the newer, better-equipped version of the same idea.

Vaporesso limits manual wattage to the 0.4ohm because the higher-resistance pods burn if pushed too hard. With a 0.6 to 1.2ohm pod the Nano offers Eco, Normal and Power presets instead, each set safely around what that pod is designed for.

How long does the XROS 4 Nano battery last?
