The PnP coil system: what it means in practice

The PnP platform is Voopoo's most useful piece of engineering. Rather than each device needing its own dedicated coil, most current Voopoo kits share the same PnP X coil family. Buy a pack of PnP X coils, and they work in your Drag S3, your partner's Argus P3, or the older Drag X2 you still have in a drawer somewhere. This cross-compatibility is unusual in the pod kit market and saves real money over time.

The original PnP coils and the newer PnP X are not interchangeable. PnP X coils have improved wicking, generally last a bit longer, and fit the current Voopoo pod lineup. If you are buying coils for a Drag S3, Drag X3, Argus Pro 2 or the Argus P3, go for PnP X. PnP coils (without the X) fit older devices like the Drag H40 and early Argus kits. Check the product page or your manual if you are unsure.

Coil lifespan across the PnP family is one to two weeks, or about five to seven fills, before the flavour starts to drop. Sweet, caramel or heavily flavoured liquids will shorten this noticeably. Keeping within the recommended wattage range, printed on the coil itself, is the single most effective way to get a full lifespan out of each coil.

Voopoo Argus: the everyday pod kit range

The Argus line is what most people end up on when they choose Voopoo. The G-series variants, the G3 (£18.99), G3 Mini (£12.99) and the current G4 (from around £23 at other retailers, check the live listing), are adjustable-wattage devices that fit the full Argus pod family. The G4 introduces a multi-ohm switching pod, which adjusts the coil resistance via a physical selector on the pod itself rather than through a menu. It is a clean solution to the MTL-versus-RDL question: one pod, three resistance options.

The Argus P3 (£30.99) takes a different approach. Square body, touchscreen controls, swipe-to-adjust wattage. The form factor divides opinion but the build quality is solid and it uses PnP X coils, so it stays compatible with the same coils as everything else in the current range.

For a straightforward starting point, the Argus G3 Mini (£12.99) is hard to argue with. 1350mAh battery, compact dimensions and an MTL draw that suits nic salt well. It does what it says, costs very little and will see out a year without incident if treated sensibly.

Drag S3 and Drag X3: when you want more battery

The Drag S3 (£28.99) and Drag X3 (£29.99) occupy a middle ground between compact pod kits and full sub-ohm mods. Both use PnP X coils and support MTL, RDTL and DTL vaping depending on which coil you fit. The practical difference between S and X is the battery arrangement.

The Drag S3 has a 3000mAh built-in battery, which is substantial for a pod kit. It charges over USB-C, reaches full charge reasonably quickly and covers a long day without needing a top-up. The Drag X3 takes a single external 18650 or 21700 battery. The battery slot approach suits vapers who already own 18650s for other devices, or those who want the option to swap in a fully charged cell rather than wait to recharge. Neither approach is objectively better; it depends on how you work.

Both are regulated devices using the GENE chip. The wattage ceiling on the Drag S3 is 60W; the X3 goes to 80W, though both are most commonly used in the 20W to 40W range for nic salt and 50/50. Running them at the top of their range requires high-VG shortfill and a sub-ohm coil, and the results are close to a small sub-ohm kit at a more portable size.

Vinci and Vmate: the simpler end of the range

Not every Voopoo user wants adjustable wattage and coil-swapping flexibility. The Vinci and Vmate ranges exist for people who want something more self-contained.

The Vinci S (around £14 at other retailers) and Vinci E80 (£28.99 at VapeCity) both run PnP X coils but are shaped around simplicity: large built-in batteries, minimal menu navigation and a draw-activated option. The E80's 3000mAh battery is the same size as the Drag S3, so the draw comparison between the two comes down to form factor and price rather than battery longevity.

The Vmate E2 (£23.99) is a different approach altogether. Slim, light, integrated-coil pods that you swap rather than refill and recoil. The pods hold 2ml and use a top-fill design with a side port. For anyone coming directly off disposables and wanting the simplest possible refillable, the Vmate is the most directly comparable Voopoo option.

Running a Voopoo kit: what to expect

A typical refillable Voopoo user goes through one to two PnP X coil packs a month. A 5-pack costs around £11.99 (PnP X) or £6.99 (original PnP for older kits). Add your nic salt costs, and the total weekly spend is well under £10 for most people, which compares favourably to the old disposable habit at £5.99 a bar.

The GENE chip manages power delivery smoothly as the battery runs down, which is one of the reasons Voopoo has a good reputation for consistent flavour across a charge cycle. A lot of cheaper devices deliver noticeably less wattage when the battery is at 30 percent; Voopoo compensates for this internally. It is not magic, just reasonable engineering applied to a real-world problem.

Most current Voopoo kits charge over USB-C. The Drag X3 uses an external charger. Full charge times vary from around 45 minutes (smaller batteries) to 90 minutes for the 3000mAh Drag S3. All UK-stocked Voopoo devices are TPD-compliant: 2ml pod capacity, nicotine capped at 20mg.
