The VOOPOO Drag S3 is a 60W pod vape kit built around a 3000mAh internal battery, the GENE.TT chipset and a 0.96-inch TFT colour screen. It is the direct successor to the Drag S2, adding 500mAh of extra capacity into the same signature Drag body design.

Unlike the VOOPOO Drag X3, which takes a removable 18650 or 21700 cell, the Drag S3 charges over USB-C and is ready straight from the pack. That makes it a genuine all-day carry device rather than a two-battery rotator. The trade-off is that you cannot swap cells on the road, but for most vapers the 3000mAh capacity covers a full working day without a top-up.
It runs PnP X coils through a 2ml side-fill pod, with 0.2ohm and 0.3ohm DTL coils in the box. The full PnP X range from 0.15 to 1.0ohm is compatible, so replacement coils are easy to source and the device covers both mouth-to-lung and direct-to-lung airflow from a single platform.
The GENE.TT is VOOPOO's third-generation firing algorithm, the same processor fitted to the Drag X3 and several other devices in the current lineup. In the Drag S3 it operates across three output modes that give everything from fully automatic wattage to precise manual control.
Smart mode reads the installed coil's resistance and sets the optimal wattage without any input from the user. If you fit a fresh 0.2ohm coil the device fires at the right power immediately. For newer vapers, or for anyone who does not want to think about wattage settings, Smart mode is essentially the only setting you need. RBA mode unlocks the full 5-60W range in fine increments, useful when you want to dial in vapour density or coil temperature to a specific preference. Eco mode caps maximum output to stretch battery life on longer days away from a charger.
The chip also drives the Evermest Lab capacitive fire key. This is not a conventional mechanical button: it uses a capacitive sensor that detects skin contact. Touch it and the device fires. Take your finger away and it re-locks in the same instant. There is no five-click sequence to unlock, no manual lock mode to engage. The mechanism VOOPOO calls "Instant Auto-Lock" eliminates pocket fires without any behaviour change from the user.
Firing speed is rated at 0.001 seconds across the GENE.TT platform. In practice that means the vapour starts the moment the button registers contact, rather than with the brief delay that older chipsets sometimes showed. For DTL vapers who inhale deeply and want consistent delivery on every draw, that responsiveness makes a noticeable difference over time.
The Drag S3 arrives at a partial charge for shipping safety, so charge it fully over USB-C before your first session to condition the 3000mAh cell. The cable is in the box. Setup itself takes about five minutes and follows the same sequence as the Drag S2 and the Drag X3.
One important step that new users often skip: prime the coil before the first draw. A fresh coil has dry cotton that needs to absorb e-liquid before heat is applied. Firing a dry coil burns the cotton immediately and produces a harsh, unpleasant taste that does not go away. Take two minutes to do this properly and the coil will last its full service life.
The 0.96-inch TFT colour display is considerably wider and clearer than the small monochrome screens on older VOOPOO pod systems. It sits on the front of the device between the two navigation buttons and the Evermest Lab fire key, and it reads clearly in both indoor and moderate outdoor light.
The screen shows the active output mode (SMART, RBA or ECO) in a colour-coded badge, the current wattage in large numerals, the installed coil resistance, and the battery level as a percentage bar. Three animated UI themes are selectable via button combination, which is a small but welcome touch for personalisation. A darker theme is practical in low-light situations; the default theme is bright and readable in daylight.
In Smart mode the wattage display reflects what the chip has set automatically based on coil resistance. In RBA mode it updates in real time as you press the < > navigation buttons. Battery percentage is displayed continuously, which is more useful than a three-bar icon for planning when to recharge.

The auto-lock is a property of the Evermest Lab capacitive fire key itself, not a separate software mode. The key uses a capacitive sensor (the same underlying technology as a smartphone touchscreen) that only responds to actual skin contact. Touch the metal disc with a fingertip and the device fires instantly. Remove your finger and it locks again in the same motion.
Traditional mechanical fire buttons can stay physically compressed if they press against the inside of a bag or pocket, drawing power and heating the coil without any user intent. The Drag S3's capacitive design removes that failure mode entirely because fabric, plastic, and other non-conductive materials do not register as a valid touch signal. The result is that the device is effectively always locked unless a human hand is actively pressing it.
VOOPOO markets this as "Instant Auto-Lock Prevents Overheating" and it is an accurate description. For vapers who carry the device in a work bag, a gym kit or a jacket pocket, this means no fumbling with a lock sequence when you want a quick draw and no scorched bag lining when you forget to lock it manually. It is one of the more practical engineering decisions in the Drag S3's design.

Pod leaks are a consistent frustration with cheaper devices, and VOOPOO has specifically addressed this with a four-layer leak-proof design on the Drag S3 pod. The chamber uses a sealed construction at the base of the coil housing that captures condensation and minor liquid overflow before it can travel down into the battery body.
The side-fill system uses a silicone bung rather than a thin slot-cap. A correctly seated bung creates a reliable seal against minor temperature-driven pressure changes in the pod. The magnetic connection also helps: because the pod seats flush and square against the body, there are no slight angular gaps that allow drips to escape on side-fill designs that use press-fit connections.
No pod vape is fully leak-proof under every possible condition. Overfilling past the max line, using a coil well past its service life, or filling with a very thin-consistency e-liquid in hot weather can all cause minor drips. The Drag S3 engineering substantially reduces that risk compared to first-generation pod systems, but the basics of good fill practice still apply.

The 3000mAh built-in lithium cell is the headline upgrade over the 2500mAh battery in the Drag S2. Running in Smart mode at typical mid-range wattages of 25 to 35W with the 0.3ohm coil, most vapers will get through a full working day on a single charge. Heavier DTL sessions at 50 to 60W with the 0.2ohm coil will reduce that substantially, so chain-vaping at max output is a different proposition to moderate all-day use.
Charging is via USB-C at 5V/2A. A full charge from empty takes roughly 90 minutes. The Drag S3 supports pass-through charging, meaning you can vape normally while it is plugged in. For desk workers who keep a USB-C cable nearby, battery management is not a concern at all: top it up during the day and it stays ready.
The 3000mAh figure is a meaningful step up from the 2500mAh Drag S2, but the Drag X3 counters this differently by taking removable cells: carry a spare charged 21700 and you have effectively unlimited runtime. Which approach suits you better depends on whether swapping batteries is convenient or just another thing to organise.
The good
The catch
VOOPOO's current pod mod range covers three main options at similar price points. Each suits a different type of vaper and the choice comes down to a few practical questions.
The Drag S3 is the natural upgrade from the Drag S2, adding 500mAh of battery and the improved four-layer leak-proof pod. If you already own a Drag S2 and want more range between charges without changing your setup, the S3 is the straightforward answer. Both devices run PnP X coils and have the same 0.96-inch TFT display at the same 60W ceiling, so the muscle memory carries over completely.
The VOOPOO Drag X3 is the more powerful option. It takes external 18650 or 21700 batteries (not included in the kit), runs to 80W, and has a 1.66-inch touchscreen that is significantly larger than the Drag S3's 0.96-inch display. If you want battery-swap flexibility, higher maximum wattage, or a larger screen for easier reading, the X3 earns its slightly higher price. If you want a self-contained daily carry that charges over USB-C and needs no additional purchases, the S3 is the more practical choice at £28.99.
| Option | Puffs | Refilling | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drag S2 | 5-60W | 2ml side-fill | Existing S2 users on a budget |
| Drag S3 | 5-60W | 2ml side-fill | All-day carry with built-in 3000mAh |
| Drag X3 | 5-80W | 2ml side-fill | Higher power, swappable external cells |
The Drag S3 uses the VOOPOO PnP X coil platform, the same system fitted to the Drag X3, Drag S2 and several other current VOOPOO devices. The kit ships with a 0.2ohm and a 0.3ohm PnP X coil, both DTL mesh heads that work best in the 25 to 60W range.
VOOPOO PnP X replacement coils are available across four resistances beyond those in the box. The 0.15ohm head is for high-power DTL at the top of the Drag S3's range, producing maximum vapour volume. The 0.3ohm is a versatile mid-range option that balances vapour and flavour well in Smart mode. The 0.8ohm and 1.0ohm heads convert the device to MTL (mouth-to-lung) or restricted DTL vaping at lower wattages, which suits nic salt users who prefer a tighter draw. Combined with the adjustable airflow slider on the pod, the platform genuinely covers the full range from tight MTL to open DTL on a single device.
Coil lifespan varies by e-liquid type and session frequency. Clear, lightly flavoured bases are considerably easier on coil cotton than dark, sweetened juices with high VG content. Under typical conditions expect one to two weeks per coil. When the flavour becomes muted or a slight burnt edge appears in the background, change the coil rather than trying to clean it. Used coils do not clean up reliably and the taste rarely recovers fully once the cotton has degraded.
Burnt taste on the first draw from a new coil
The cotton was not primed before use. Remove the coil, drip 2 to 3 drops of e-liquid onto the coil head, refill the pod, and wait 10 minutes before firing again.
Device not firing when the button is touched
Ensure you are using the pad of your fingertip (dry skin contact). Check the pod is fully seated magnetically. If a protection icon appears on screen, allow the device to cool for 2 minutes before retrying.
Weak vapour or reduced flavour
Check the battery percentage and charge if below 20%. In RBA mode, increase wattage gradually in 3W steps. Ensure the airflow slider is open. Replace the coil if it is more than 10 days old.
E-liquid leaking from the base of the pod
Confirm the silicone bung is fully reseated after filling. Do not fill past the max line. Replace the coil if it has exceeded its service life. Store the device upright and let it rest for a few minutes after filling.
Battery not charging or no charging indicator on screen
Try a different USB-C cable rated at 5V/2A or higher. Clean the USB-C port gently with a dry soft brush. If the screen remains blank during charging, contact your retailer under the manufacturer warranty.
