The Innokin Zenith Plexus Z is a dedicated mesh coil for the Zenith tank rated at 0.5 Ohm. It is distinct from the four-coil general Zenith pack in both resistance and internal architecture. While the Plex3D 0.48 Ohm in the general Zenith range uses a three-dimensional mesh element, the Plexus Z introduces the Z-wicking channel: a specific wick geometry engineered to address the main limitation of mesh coils at sub-ohm wattages, which is inconsistent saturation at higher heat and draw frequency.
This coil is aimed at experienced Zenith users who have progressed through the MTL resistances and want the most vapour and flavour the tank can produce, without the dry hit risk that sometimes accompanies aggressive sub-ohm vaping with standard cotton-wick coils. If you want a tighter draw, the standard Zenith coil pack covers the MTL resistances, and the full Innokin range sits alongside both.
In a conventional mesh coil, the cotton wick wraps around or sits behind the mesh element and draws e-liquid from the tank by capillary action. The cotton must be saturated enough to feed the mesh continuously, particularly at higher wattages where the mesh is consuming e-liquid faster than at low-wattage MTL settings.
The limitation of standard cotton wicking in this context is consistency. When vaping frequency is high or wattage is elevated, the cotton near the mesh surface can dry out faster than the supply from the tank can replenish it. The result is a dry hit: the cotton scorches briefly before the liquid catches up, leaving a burnt note in the vapour.
The Z-wicking channel in the Plexus Z addresses this by modifying the physical path through which e-liquid travels from the tank into the wick material. The Z-channel creates multiple smaller pathways that feed the wick from different angles simultaneously, rather than relying on a single-direction capillary feed from below. The effect is faster, more uniform saturation across the full mesh surface. At 0.5 Ohm and 15 to 20 watts, where e-liquid consumption is higher than at MTL resistances, this translates to fewer dry hits during continuous use.
The Plexus Z is the right choice for Zenith users who are comfortable at 15 to 20 watts and want the most vapour and flavour the tank can produce. If you find the Plex3D 0.48 Ohm from the standard Zenith coil pack gives you the draw you want but you experience occasional dry hits during heavy vaping sessions, the Plexus Z's wicking design is specifically intended to address that issue.
This coil is not suited to vapers who prefer a tight MTL draw. At 0.5 Ohm and 15 to 20 watts, the draw is firmly in the open MTL to restricted direct-lung category. The vapour volume is substantially higher than any of the higher-resistance Zenith coil options. If you prefer a cool, tight draw from the Zenith, the 1.0 Ohm or 1.6 Ohm coils in the general Zenith pack are the appropriate choice.
Vapers who use the Zenith alongside a mod capable of 25 watts or more will find the Plexus Z performs best when used within its 15 to 20 watt range. Running it above the top of the recommended range does not necessarily improve flavour and increases heat stress on the coil and wick, shortening lifespan.
The Plexus Z at 0.5 Ohm benefits from higher VG e-liquids that carry more flavour per millilitre. A 70/30 VG/PG blend is the optimal starting point. The higher VG content produces denser, more flavourful vapour at the temperatures this coil operates at, and the Z-wicking channel handles the thicker viscosity better than standard cotton-only wicking at this resistance.
If you typically use 50/50 liquids for MTL vaping, the Plexus Z will still work with them, but you will get less from the additional vapour capacity of the coil than you would from a VG-dominant liquid. The Z-channel is specifically designed to feed thicker, slower-wicking liquids efficiently, so using a thin 50/50 liquid does not make full use of the design advantage.
Freebase nicotine at 3mg is the most practical choice at this wattage and draw style. Nic salts at high strength (20mg) are not recommended for open-draw sub-ohm coils because the vapour volume delivers nicotine much faster than a tight MTL coil at the same strength, potentially causing discomfort. If you use nic salts, stay at 10mg or below when using the Plexus Z.
Dry or burnt hit during a heavy session
Slow your draw cadence and make sure the tank is at least a third full so the Z-channel keeps feeding the mesh.
Burnt taste from the first vape
It was not primed long enough for a sub-ohm mesh. Re-prime, rest it ten minutes, and start at 15W.
Muted or flat flavour
Either the wattage is too low or the liquid is too thin. Nudge the power up and switch to a 70/30 blend.
Coil tiring quickly
Running above 20W heat-stresses the mesh. Keep it in range, and expect shorter life on sweet liquids.
