The Innokin Zenith is one of the most reviewed and recommended MTL tanks in the UK, with a reputation for reliable coil life and clean flavour delivery. The Zenith coil pack covers four distinct resistance options, giving the same tank different draw characteristics depending on which coil you install. From the ultra-tight 1.6 Ohm to the open-draw Plex3D mesh, the Zenith coil range is one of the most versatile available for an MTL tank.
These coils are available at £38.99 per pack and are compatible with the Innokin Zenith and Zenith 2 tanks. They are not compatible with the Plexus-Z variant, which is sold separately. You will find the full Innokin coil and tank range alongside them.
The 1.6 Ohm coil is the tightest option in the range, running at 8 watts. At this resistance and wattage, vapour is cool, the draw is highly restricted, and the throat feel is primarily from nicotine rather than heat. This is the closest the Zenith can get to a cigarette-like experience. It works well with nic salt e-liquids at 10mg to 20mg and suits beginners who want the most familiar MTL draw possible. Devices with a minimum output of 8 to 10 watts can run this coil.
The 1.0 Ohm coil operates at 10 to 14 watts and represents the standard MTL experience. The draw is moderately tight, vapour temperature is slightly warmer than the 1.6 Ohm, and both 50/50 and 60/40 e-liquids wick consistently. This is the coil that suits the broadest range of Zenith users: experienced enough to have moved past the tightest draw but not seeking the more open performance of lower resistances. It is the most popular Zenith coil for day-to-day use.
The 0.8 Ohm coil runs at 10 to 14 watts and produces a noticeably warmer draw than the 1.0 Ohm. Flavour intensity increases with the higher coil temperature, which makes this a good choice for vapers who prioritise the taste of their e-liquid over draw tightness. Nic salt liquids at 10mg to 20mg still work well here; freebase at 3mg to 6mg is also comfortable.
The Plex3D 0.48 Ohm mesh coil operates at 13 to 20 watts and opens the Zenith's draw into restricted direct-lung territory. The Plex3D element is a three-dimensional mesh that contacts a much larger surface area of the wick than a flat mesh or wire coil, producing more vapour and more intense flavour from the same e-liquid. This option suits vapers who have been vaping for some time and want the most from the Zenith tank. Higher VG liquids at 60/40 to 70/30 pair well with the Plex3D coil.
The Zenith tank is used on a wide variety of devices, from basic fixed-wattage starter kits to variable-wattage mods. The coil you choose must fall within the output range your device can produce. A 1.6 Ohm coil on a device limited to 8W will work, but a Plex3D 0.48 Ohm coil on the same device will produce unsatisfying, cool vapour well below its rated performance.
For devices with adjustable wattage, set the output to the middle of the recommended range for your chosen coil and adjust from there based on personal preference. Increasing wattage adds warmth and vapour but shortens coil life. Staying at the lower end of the recommended range gives a cooler draw but extends how long the coil lasts before the flavour degrades.
A simple rule: if your device goes up to 15W, all four coils are accessible in theory, but you will get the best from the 0.8 Ohm and 1.0 Ohm options. If your device reaches 20W or above, the Plex3D 0.48 Ohm coil is within reach and gives you a substantially different vaping experience from the same tank.
The Zenith coil uses a standard wicking system that requires priming before first use. Drip three to five drops of e-liquid onto each visible cotton wicking port on the side of the coil. Install the primed coil into the Zenith base, fill the tank, and allow five minutes before vaping. On the first few draws, start at a wattage below the recommended range and draw slowly to let the wick heat from cool rather than immediately hitting full operating temperature.
Zenith coils are well regarded for longevity. Under moderate use with a 50/50 e-liquid, most vapers get 10 to 16 days from a single coil before noticeable flavour degradation. Sweet and dessert e-liquids shorten this significantly, as sucralose residue caramelises on the coil mesh and cannot be cleared by wicking. Tobacco and menthol e-liquids produce the longest coil life.
A coil that needs replacing shows as a persistent burnt undertone in the vapour, reduced vapour production compared with a fresh coil, or a change in the character of the throat feel. These signals are consistent across all four resistance options.
Burnt taste from a brand-new coil
It was fired before the cotton soaked or run too hot. Prime the wicking ports, rest it five minutes, and start low.
Cool, weak vapour
The wattage is below the coil’s range. Step the power up towards the recommended figure for that resistance.
Coil only lasting a week
Sweet dessert liquids caramelise on the mesh fast. Expect shorter life on those, or switch to a lighter flavour.
Gurgling or a flooded draw
Do not overfill, and keep e-liquid out of the central airflow tube when refilling.
