Innokin Prism S Replacement Coils

The difference between Prism S coils and the earlier Prism BDC coils is not just a label. The S coil uses a different physical fitting system. Where the original Prism BDC coil has a threaded base that screws into the tank section, the Prism S uses a slot-fit mechanism: the coil drops in with a set orientation and presses into place with a firm push or a quarter-turn, depending on the device.

Innokin made this change to simplify coil swaps. Threaded coils need enough rotation to seat fully, and overtightening can damage the tank section. The slot-fit avoids that by giving a clear stop point that tells you the coil is home without any guesswork about force. For anyone replacing their own coil for the first time, it is the more forgiving design.

The fitting change is also why the two coil types are not interchangeable. A Prism S coil will not thread into a T18E tank, and an older T18E Prism BDC coil will not slot into a T22E. The device models and their coil formats are separate, and buying the wrong one wastes both the coil and the refill of e-liquid you primed it with.

The 0.8 Ohm Prism S coil runs at 13 to 15 watts and produces warm vapour with a moderate MTL draw. At this resistance, flavour from the e-liquid comes through more intensely, because the warmer vapour carries more of the aromatic compounds to your palate. This is the coil for vapers who put taste first and are happy with a warmer draw.

Both 50/50 and 60/40 VG/PG blends wick cleanly through the 0.8 Ohm coil. Higher VG liquids at 70/30 also work in the T22E and T22 Pro at this resistance, with the extra VG giving a slightly fuller vapour body. Freebase nicotine at 3mg to 6mg and nic salt at 10mg to 20mg are both suitable, with nic salt giving the smoother throat feel at the warmer temperature.

The 1.5 Ohm Prism S coil operates at 10 to 12 watts and gives the T22E and T22 Pro their tightest, coolest MTL draw. The vapour temperature is low, the draw resistance is high, and the overall feel sits close to a filtered cigarette. This is the coil to fit if you want the larger, USB-C T22E to draw more like the older T20S or T18E, while keeping the bigger battery.

The 1.5 Ohm coil is happiest with 50/50 e-liquids and nic salts. Higher VG blends wick more slowly at the lower temperature and can be inconsistent at 1.5 Ohm wattages. If you live on 70/30 liquids, the 0.8 Ohm coil is the more reliable match.

Prism S coils use a cotton wick that has to be saturated before the first vape. Before fitting a new coil, add two or three drops of e-liquid straight onto the visible wicking ports on the sides of the coil body. Fit it, fill the tank, then wait five minutes. Taking the first few draws slowly helps the wick reach full saturation rather than hitting dry cotton at full speed.

Under regular use a Prism S coil lasts 7 to 14 days. The 0.8 Ohm coil, running at slightly higher wattage, sits at the lower end of that range under heavy all-day use. The 1.5 Ohm coil at 10 to 12 watts runs cooler per draw and tends towards the upper end under the same conditions.

E-liquid choice has the biggest effect on coil life of anything you can control. Tobacco and menthol liquids with little added sweetener keep the coil clean across its full lifespan. Dessert liquids, especially heavy caramel, vanilla or cream notes, carry sucralose that bakes onto the coil wire as a thickening residue. Wicking cannot clear it, so the burnt undertone arrives sooner. If you live on sweet juice and find coils lasting only a week, that is the sugar, not a faulty coil.
