DC MTL technology in the 0.8 Ohm Nord pod
SMOK's DC MTL (Dual-Core Mouth-to-Lung) coil uses two mesh coil elements placed in parallel within the pod chamber. Each element independently heats the e-liquid from a different angle, providing coverage that a single-element coil cannot match. The result is more consistent flavour delivery at standard MTL wattage and reduced dry-hit risk at the edges of the pod where single-element coils can leave e-liquid slightly less heated.
At 0.8 Ohm, the DC MTL runs at 12-20W on the Nord — a comfortable mid-range wattage for the Nord battery. Flavour from the DC MTL is notably cleaner and more pronounced than earlier single-wire Nord coils.
The 1.4 Ohm Nord pod: ultra-tight MTL
At 1.4 Ohm, the Nord ultra-tight pod runs at 8-12W. The draw resistance is at the tight end of the MTL range — similar to a medium cigarette. Very little vapour is produced, but the nicotine delivery from 20mg nic salt e-liquid is efficient: each puff delivers a strong, clear nicotine hit without significant cloud production.
The 1.4 Ohm option extends battery life significantly per charge compared to the lower-resistance options. For vapers who use their Nord discreetly in situations where vapour production would be inappropriate, the 1.4 Ohm is the ideal choice.
