Aspire Nautilus 2S Replacement Coils

The original Nautilus and the Nautilus 2 built their name on adjustable airflow, dependable BVC coils and a fuss-free refill. The 2S keeps that pitch and reworks the insides. The coil sits in a redesigned chamber that feeds the wick better and cuts the gurgle the older tanks sometimes threw at low fill levels.

The big change is the coil fitting. The BVC threaded heads from the original Nautilus, the Nautilus Mini and the Nautilus 2 do not screw into the 2S. The 2S uses a push-fit coil with different dimensions and wicking. Worth repeating because it trips people up: previously bought Nautilus BVC coils are not compatible with the 2S. For those tanks you want the Nautilus BVC coils instead.

The 2S also opened the line up to mesh, which the old BVC design could never take. The 0.7 ohm mesh brings the consistency and flavour that mesh is known for to a tank that used to be wire-only.

Mesh tends to get talked about in the context of big clouds and sub-ohm tanks, but the principle carries over to MTL, just more quietly. In a single-wire coil the current concentrates at one point against the wick, so the centre hits peak temperature first and you get a gradient: hotter in the middle, cooler at the edges.

A mesh element is a fine metal grid spread over a much larger area. Pass current through it and the whole grid warms at once, evenly. No hotspots, no cool edges. Every part of the wick touching the mesh vaporises at the same temperature, drawing from the full surface rather than one stressed point.

In MTL terms that means flavour that holds steady from the first draw of a tank to the last, with less variation puff to puff. Plenty of vapers also find mesh coils at these resistances last a little longer before the burnt note arrives, because the wear is spread across the whole surface instead of cooking one wire.

The 0.4 ohm standard gives a warm, restricted draw. Run it around 12 to 18 watts and it delivers solid flavour and warmth from a 50/50 or slightly higher-VG juice. The draw is classic MTL, happy with freebase or salt. If you loved the tight feel of the old Nautilus, this coil keeps that character with better wicking.

The 0.7 ohm mesh runs 12 to 16 watts and draws a touch more openly, sitting in the moderate MTL zone: not as tight as the highest BVC resistances, but still firmly mouth-to-lung. The reason to pick it is flavour. If your juice has layers (tobacco, coffee, stacked fruits) and you want them clear, the mesh surface renders them more faithfully than the standard wire.

Both handle the usual MTL VG ratios. 50/50 and 60/40 are the safe bet for either. You can push above 70% VG on the mesh thanks to its bigger wicking surface, but the 0.4 ohm standard may saturate slowly with the thick stuff.

Priming is the difference between a coil that lasts a fortnight and one that tastes burnt on draw one. Two minutes, do not skip it.

Most coil grumbles are priming or power, not a faulty head. Run through these first.
