Nordic Spirit Dark Fizz Nicotine Pouches

Flat cola with a pinch of cinnamon on top, and a fizz that lives in the pouch rather than in the flavour. That is the honest one-line version. The first minute is the liveliest: a sharp, sherbety tingle across the gum that people either love or find a bit much, together with a burst of citrus that reads as a lemon wedge dropped into a glass. It is genuinely sparkling in a way no other Nordic Spirit is.

By minute five the fizz calms and the body of the flavour arrives. This is where the cinnamon and vanilla live: warm, sweet, faintly spiced, the taste of the last inch of a cola that has lost its bubbles. Vanilla rounds the edges so it never turns into a Fireball-style cinnamon burn. The "dark" in the name is this stage, a deeper, brown-sugar sort of sweetness with none of the fruit brightness of the berry pouches.

The finish, from about minute twenty onward, is mostly sweet warmth with the citrus long gone. It fades faster than the fruit flavours in the range; several customers describe the cola as "short-lived", and they are not wrong. Expect 30 to 40 minutes of proper flavour, a little less than Forest Berries manages.

What it is not: it is not cooled, it is not minty and it is not sour. If you are hoping for cherry cola, there is no cherry. If you want ice, this is the wrong can entirely.

Both, and the disagreement online comes from retailers copying different bits of JTI's marketing. The official product page says "spicy-sweet cinnamon, vanilla and citrus". Half the shops that stock it say "classic cola". Neither is wrong, because those three ingredients are the backbone of every cola recipe going back to the 1880s: a citrus oil top note, vanilla for sweetness and cinnamon (with a few other spices) for warmth. Take away the caramel colouring and the caffeine and you are left with what Dark Fizz tastes like.

So if you enjoy cola-flavour sweets, bottles or vapes, you will recognise it instantly. If you were expecting a spicy cinnamon pouch, you will find it much milder than that; the cinnamon is a background warmth, not the star. And if you were expecting something fruity because of the "dark" in the name, it is worth knowing there is no berry in here at all.

The name, for what it is worth, follows JTI's pattern of describing the effect rather than the ingredient (see Frosty Berry, Zesty Pear). Dark for the deep, sweet body; Fizz for the tingle. That is the whole naming logic.

Two strengths, both in the red can, told apart by the dots on the lid.

The 6mg is the friendlier introduction, and with this particular flavour that matters more than usual. The fizz and the nicotine tingle stack on top of each other in the first couple of minutes, and on the Strong that can feel like a lot if you are new to pouches. Regular takes the edge off without losing the cola character.

The 9mg is the one to pick if you have used a three-dot Nordic Spirit before, or if you came off cigarettes or a 20mg disposable. The extra nicotine reads as a slightly sharper, more citrusy opening and a warmer finish; some people find the cinnamon comes forward at this strength. It is satisfying without being harsh once the first two minutes have passed.

There is no Extra Strong or Max version in the UK range. A few overseas listings mention a 12mg, but JTI does not sell one here and we do not stock one. If you need more than 9mg, the Frosty Mint Max at 17mg is the brand's heavy-hitter, with the caveat that it is a completely different flavour.

Dark Fizz arrived with the 2025 redesign of the Nordic Spirit line, so it has only ever existed as a moist pouch. Higher moisture means the flavour and nicotine come through within the first minute, and it is the reason the fizz feels so immediate; there is no dry-pouch warm-up period where you wait for saliva to do the work.

It also means an open can needs looking after. Moist pouches lose their liveliness once the seal is broken, and with a flavour that trades on its fizz, a stale can is noticeably duller than a fresh one. Lid clicked shut every time, out of the sun, finished inside a fortnight. If you buy a sleeve, open one can at a time.

Each pouch is the standard slim size and weighs around 0.7g. It sits flat under the upper lip, does not stain, does not need spitting, and is invisible to anyone you are talking to. The only tell is the faint cola smell if somebody gets very close.

There is no near-twin for Dark Fizz within the brand, which is exactly why people buy it. The closest comparisons are by mood rather than by ingredient.

Zesty Pear is the one to try if the brightness is what you enjoyed. It has no fizz, but the lime twist on a sweet pear gives a similar lift at the start, and it feels lighter and lasts a little longer. Plenty of people keep one can of each and alternate.

Forest Berries and Tropical Mix cover the "sweet but not mint" ground with fruit instead of spice. If you tried Dark Fizz and found the cinnamon-vanilla warmth cloying by the third pouch, one of those is probably your flavour. And if you have never used a pouch before, honestly, start with Nordic Spirit Mint or Spearmint and come back to Dark Fizz once you know you like the format. It is a flavour to graduate to, not to begin on.

Same drill as any Nordic Spirit, with one tip specific to this flavour: the fizz and the nicotine tingle arrive together, so give it two full minutes before deciding it is too strong.

Good, and unusual, which is not the same as good for everyone. If you like cola sweets, cola bottles or a cola vape, it is the most faithful pouch version we have found, and the fizz gives it a personality that the polite fruit flavours lack. The moist format suits it well; a cola that took three minutes to wake up would be a sad thing.

The weak spots are real. The flavour tails off sooner than the berries, so a heavy user gets through a can quicker than they would on Forest Berries or Mint. The cinnamon-vanilla body can feel heavy by the end of a day of nothing else. And there is no way up from 9mg.

Skip it if you want cooling, if you dislike cinnamon in any form, or if you need 11mg and above. Buy it if you are bored of mint and the fruit pouches feel too much like sweets. Best used as the afternoon or evening can alongside a mint in the morning.
